Apr 30, I Am Soo Tired and About To Give Up...

I have worked very hard to build a site that offered value to my visitors. Up until last October I was beginning to reap the benefits of all that hard work as my number of visitors per day was edging up to around 2,000 a day.

Then I got hit by Panda 2.5.2 and those traffic numbers immediately fell to around 600 a day.

Last year was tough, as many of you know I lost my Dad around 18 months ago and the move interstate to support my Mother through her grieving period meant that I had to leave my children and grandchildren in our home state, live in someone else's house for an indefinite period of time, and close my knitting store.

All I had left of my previous life was my website and Google seems determined to wipe it out.

Since October my traffic has been fairly steady, no further drops but no growth either. Told myself that it was okay, winter is knitting season and not yet upon us, so things will pick up and in April it appeared to be starting to happen.

Then Penguin struck and my visitor numbers are down to around 250 per day. Google has dropped or penalised most of my pages and the most significant drops in traffic are from Australia and New Zealand in the run up to our winter.

So basically I am screwed.

I don't know what I am supposed to have done so there is no way I can fix it, and anyway I really don't have the heart for it anymore.

A total reliance on Google for new visitors (Yahoo and Bing send some but not many) means that sooner or later the trickle of new visitors to the site will dry up, my income is already virtually non-existent and I will quickly find myself in a position where I can no longer afford to keep the site.

How can you help?

Social media - pin my site on pininterest, talk about it on Facebook, mention the site on any related forums you are a member of, tell your friends about it and get them to bookmark it (before it disappears from the search results all together).

Spread the word and help me keep Knitting Naturally online.

To be quite honest, until recently I never really got into knitting socks. There were just so many other things I wanted to knit, I don't wear socks that much and couldn't see the sense in knitting them when I can pick up a pair of socks from my local supermarket for less than the cost of the wool! So there you have it. I can be wrong on occasion!
