A Noel

I am knitting a jumper on round needles. When I begin, it seems straignt. The second time, I double checked to make sure it was straignth. When I transfer it to the larger needles after cast on and working 2 inches, it becomes twisted as if it were never straight from the beginning. I have started over twice.

How does this happen and what can I do?

YOUR ANSWER

At a guess I would say that your knitting has twisted around the circular needle during the first row.

What I usually do is to knit the first one or two rows as 'rows', knitting the first row and then turning the piece and knitting back the other way.

This makes it easier to keep the knitting straight on the circular needle when I join the two edges and prevent twisting. You have to sew the two edges together when you have finished knitting but it does make it easier to prevent the cast on edge from twisting around the needle.
