I have a pattern, I don't understand. It is a pattern for a knitted Newsboy Hat by purplekittyyarn.com.

The pattern is:

Rnd 1: P3 (4),CB2, P8, CB2, P3(4)4 times.

Please help. Bonnie

Hi Bonnie

Most patterns provide detailed instructions for the abbreviations they us in the patterns. So you should be able to find out exactly what the designer means by CB2 by checking the section in the pattern that lists the abbreviations.

I had a look at the link you provided and couldn't find the site so I was unable to find the pattern. Unfortunately the same abbreviation can mean different things in different patterns so without being able to read the pattern, any instructions I give you will be a best guess. But here goes!

C2B is usually worked over 4 sts. You slip the first 2 stitches onto a cable needle and hold at the back, work knit the next 2 stitches and then knit the 2 from the cable needle.

So assuming that you are doing the first size, you purl 3 stitches, slip the next two stitches onto a cable needle and hold at the back of your knitting, knit the next two stitches, slip the stitches on the cable needle back onto the left hand needle and knit them. Purl 8 stitches, slip the next two stitches onto a cable needle and hold at the back of your knitting, knit the next two stitches, slip the stitches on the cable needle back onto the left hand needle and knit them. Purl 3 stitches. Repeat all of these instructions another 3 times.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, this really helped alot. Now I can finish the hat. Thanks again. I will use "Knitting Naturally" again if I get stuck on a pattern. Bonnie
