Circular needles

I've trying to knit a babies jumper and with the circular needle the pattern says to join when starting the first row. I've tried three different times and each time somehow it gets twisted. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please could you help me?

YOUR ANSWER

It happens sometimes and can be very frustrating, especially when you have a large number of stitches!

One thing I often do is to knit the first two rows as I normally would with single pointed needles (i.e knit the first row and then turn the work and purl the second row). Then I do the join on the 3rd row.

This gives you a bit more depth to work with and makes it easier to 'untwist' the stitches on your circular needle. All you need to do when you have finished knitting is to close up the gap at the bottom. If you use the invisible seam method, you will not be able to tell that you have sewn up the first two rows unless you look really closely.

Thank you for answering my question. I'm going to try that and see if it works. The more I can't figure it out - the more determined I get.
Just a tad frustrating. thanks- -Kate-

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
