Converting sweater for a zipper

by Diana
(Los Angeles Ca)

I have a man's sweater pattern that calls for buttons and buttonholes but my husband wants a zipper.

Can I change the pattern? It is just knit one row, pearl the next.

YOUR ANSWER

If the pattern calls for buttons and buttonholes it must have a couple of bands. All you need if you are using a zipper is one width - for button holes one band sits on top of the other.

So for each band only cast on half the number of stitches specified by the pattern and knit them both without button holes.

When you have finished, you sew the zipper to the bands.
