Decorative cast on edges

Cast on 5 Cast off 2 Decorative Cast On

Cast on 5 Cast off 2 Decorative Cast On

I have a pattern question. The pattern reads *Cast on 5 sts, cast off 2 sts, slip st on RH needle back onto LH needle* (3sts now on LH needle). Rep from *to* until 63 sts on needle.

I don't understand the cast on cast off portion, what is the point?

YOUR ANSWER

Hi Kathy,

I am guessing that your pattern has a decorative cast on edge. If you repeat the instructions you will end up with a cast on edge with little bits handing down (the 'cast off 2 stitches' bits) every three stitches along the edge.

Thanks for your help. Yes it is a decorative edging. I was thrown off by the cast off, not realizing it meant "bind off".

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.
