Difficult pattern

Hi, I'm designing a Cardigan for ladies, the pattern says:

Row 1: k1 yfwd k1 *s1 k2tog k1 yfwd k1 yfwd k1, repeat from * till last 5 stitches , s1 k2tog k1 yfwd k1

Row 2: purl

Continue pattern till 9 inches and then decrease on both ends for next 10 rows.

I don't know how to decrease following the pattern

Please help.

YOUR ANSWER

For each yfwd there should be a matching decrease so you have to make sure that if you include one in the decrease at the end of the row, you exclude the other.

So for example on the first row:

Row 1: k1 yfwd k1 *s1 k2tog k1 yfwd k1 yfwd k1, repeat from * till last 5 stitches , s1 k2tog k1 yfwd k1

You would start with k2 instead of k1 yfwd k1.

The matching decrease for yfwd is in the sl1 k2tog so eliminating the first yfwd effectively decreases 1 sts at the beginning of the row. For the second row you would p2 tog at the beginning and end of the row.

For the third row you would start with k1, sl1 k2tog, as the accompanying fwd has been eliminated in the previous row.

Keep working row by row, counting at the end to make sure that you end up with 2 less stitches on each of the 10 decrease rows.

Hope this helps...

I don't know how to yfwd k1 how do I hold my needle to accomplish this?

YOUR ANSWER

Basically all you do is to bring the yarn to the front of the work between the stitches. Then you insert the right hand needle into the next stitch and bring the yarn back over to form the knit stitch, so that you have a loop over the right hand needle between the stitch you have just made and the one before it.

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
