Duplicate Stitching

by MJ

I am teaching myself Fair Isle Knitting and after I have completed the back of a sweater I found some mistakes. I don't want to rip so can I use duplicate stitch to cover it and if I can what is the best way to do this?

I have never done duplicate stitching.

YOUR ANSWER

Duplicate stitching is basically embroidering over a stitch in the knitted fabric with a different colour.

You use a sewing needle with an eye big enough for you wool to pass through. Bring the needle up through the fabric at the base of the stitch you want to cover, and follow the wool in the existing stitch with your needle.

So you take the needle and put it behind the stitch about (in on the right and back to the front on the left of the stitch above) and then take the needle back down to the base of the stitch you are covering and through to the back of the work.

Knitting.About.Com has a good tutorial on duplicate stitching (with photos), you can find it here>

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
