Knitting and Felting Wool Bowls

by Pauline

Pattern says--Cast on 10 stitches, knit 20 rows,
Pick up stitches (using 3 double pointed needles)
around--30 stitches.

If I pick up stitches all around, I have more than 30 stitches--20 on each long side and 10 on the ends--How can I get just 30 stitches.

Thank you

Hi Pauline

I have had a look at the pattern instructions that you send and I think I know what you need to do.

This is a case of less than clear instructions in your pattern. What you need to do is to pick up 10 stitches down one side, 10 stitches on the cast of edge and 10 stitches up the other side.

For the side edges you pick up one stitch for every two rows. As you are knitting garter stitch, one stitch per two rows will look okay and the spacing between the stitches should be similar to the top and the bottom of your knitting.

You pick up and knit an additional 30 stitches and end up with a total of 40 stitches on the needle.

Give it a go and see how it works. Please feel free to contact me again if you have any problems.

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
