Website Development Resources

Knitting Naturally is a 100% web based business. At some time in the future I would like to actually have a physical store, a little cottage in the hills where I will spend my days pottering around my knitting store and entertaining my grand-daughter but at the moment the business only exists on-line (and the carport and spare bedroom!) I could not have created this business without a bit of help.

Site Build It

Site Build It is more than just a hosting service. This company provides you will all the tools you need to create not just a website, but a web business and then take the time to teach you how to do it.

When I started I could surf the web, but I had no idea how to create a web page. Site Build It taught me everything I needed to know to thoroughly research my topic and build a site that satisfies both human and all of the major search engines. After nearly a year, Knitting Naturally is attracting around 350 unique visitors a day.

There is no way I could have done that on my own!

Bluehost

Bluehost provides a complete web hosting solution or as in my case, a useful add-on for Site Build It sites.

I use Bluehost to host my knitting store and to manage my 'au' domains so that they redirect to the knitting-naturally.com site. It is also handy to have additional storage provided by adding Bluehost to my web arsenal for storing the large number of photos and videos I have added to the site.

Although the store is hosted with a different company, the search engines see it as a sub-domain of www.knitting-naturally.com

Zencart

Zen Cart™ free, user-friendly, open source shopping cart software. The ecommerce web site design program is being developed by group of like-minded shop owners, programmers, designers, and consultants that think ecommerce web design could be and should be done differently.

Without Zencart my knitting store would not exist.

I have a small number of very good suppliers for my knitting store. Without them, my store might exist but the shelves would be bare!

Australian Country Spinners

Australian Country Spinners (ACS) is an Australian textile company producing high quality, pure wool, wool-blend and synthetic hand-knitting, machine-knitting yarn and weaving yarns.

They are the Australian distributors for Patons, Cleckheaton, Panda and Shepherd wools.

Australian Organic Wools

Australian Organic Wool is a family operated business located at the foot hills of the World Heritage Border Rangers National Park near Nimbin.

The business was created by Mel McMillan, after a fruitless search for an Australian organic wool yarn with which to knit for her children. Mel decided to create her own and at the beginning of 2007 the first WOOLganic yarn was spun.

8 Season Knitting

8 Season Knitting is located in Shanghai, China. They have their own bamboo knitting factory in Yiwu city. The quality of 8 Season's bamboo knitting needles is consistently very good making them an inexpensive alternative to steel or plastic knitting needles.
