Knitting Naturally

Knitting Seems to be Growing!

by Trish

My friend is showing me how to knit and she started it by casting on for me and made it 8 loops.

But now i have 12 loops on the needle is that right should it keep adding to it?

YOUR ANSWER

Sorry Trish, but no that is not right.

If you are just doing straight knitting with no intentional increases, you should still have the same number of stitches that you started with.

Rather than try to fix what you have done so far, it might be easier to unpick what you have done and start again. Don't get discouraged, this happens to more new knitters than you might think. My advice would be to just think of it as a learning experience and try again.

Can your friend start your knitting for you again?

If you can't get hold of her, you could have a go at casting on yourself. There are step by step instructions on how to cast on here at this page.

Once you have your eight stitches on your needle, follow the instructions on this page.

Good luck Trish. Knitting can be a very rewarding past time once you get the hang of it.

Please keep in touch, I would be very interested in how you are getting on. (You cand do this by adding a comment to this page.)
