Knitting Naturally

lost a stitch

I am making a basket weave blanket and just realized I must have picked up 2 stitches at the same time because instead of having 5 stitches in my pattern I have only four. It happened a number of rows below...too much to take out!

Can I add the stitch back somehow in that section?

YOUR ANSWER

You might be able to do it, but it will throw off the tension for that particular bit of your blanket. If it was me I would be tempted to unpick to that row and re-do it.

To fix the problem, knit across the row to just before the two stitches that have been knitted together. Slip that stitch off the needle and let it unravel down to the row where you made the mistake. Put one of the stitches on a holder ( a safety pin will do the trick) and use a crochet hook or your knitting needles to knit the stitch back up the current row.

Then go back to the stitch on the holder and do the same with it.

The tension on these two stitches will be tighter than the surrounding stitches as you really only have enough yarn on each row for one stitch not two, but depending on how tightly you knit, you might get away with it.
