Making Norwegian Hat

by Cindy Pendergast

Pattern says to cast on using a provisional cast on stitch with two yarns. How do you do this cast on? I am familiar with long tail cast on.

When I'm done with the hat, I'm suppose to remove one of the yarns (waste yarn) and add a lining yarn.

YOUR ANSWER

Hi Cindy.

Personally I have very little experience with a provisional cast on. In fact the only time I have done one was years ago and that was using a knitting machine!

There are at least three different ways of doing a provisional cast on, and the method that you choose is a matter of personal preference.

Because of my limited experience, I have done a bit of a search and found a great Knitting Daily video by Eunny Jang that demonstrates all three methods.

This video is the best I have found by far, her explanations are clear and her hand movements are slow enough that you are able to follow what she is actually doing!

Hope this helps.

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
