Raglan Decreases

by Georgia
(Aliquippa, PA)

I have a pattern for a sweater with raglan sleeves. 2nd decrease row reads (RS) K1,sl1,K1 PSSO, K. last three stitches K2 tog, K1

Next instruction is: Working all decreases as set by last row, continue as follows: Work 3 rows.
Dec. 1 st. at each end of next and every alt. row until 15 sts. remain.

When I work the three rows am I to follow the pattern above K1,sl, K1...etc. or just work three rows in stockinette. If I follow the above decreases I will only have 2 stitches at the end of that row, not 3.

This is pattern P. by Carter & Parker LTD.

Did I confuse you, too?????

YOUR ANSWER

Hi Georgia,

You didn't confuse me at all - I completely understand where you are coming from. Quite often it seems that knitting pattern designers go out of their way to make the instructions as ambiguous as possible leading to inevitable confusion!

The way I read the pattern is that those three rows are plain knitting (stockinette) with no decreases. Then you decrease on the 4th, 6th, 8th, (etc) rows.

The bit about working all decreases as set by last row just means that you are to follow the decrease instructions as provided in that row (i.e. K1, sl1, psso at one end and k2 tog, k1 at the other end of the row).

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
