Rib4, rib2tog

by Kitty
(CA)

I would really appreciate your help with this series of direction.

My pattern calls for:

Rib4, rib2tog, 13 times, rib 5, 36 sts

What does that mean?

Please explain stitch by stitch... I am a beginner.

Thanks!

YOUR ANSWER

Hi Kitty,

The rib 4 bit means to knit the next four stitches in the rib pattern already established. So if you were doing a 1x1 rib, it would be k1, p1, k1, p1. If you were doing a 2x2 rib it would be k2, p1. Without seeing the rest of your pattern instructions I am not able to provide precise instructions on how to do it.

The rib2tog just means that you knit the next two stitches together.

The rib 5 bit at the end means that you knit the last five stitches in the row as you have done in previous rows, i.e. you knit any knit stitches and purl any purl stitches.

YOUR ANSWER

When the pattern says rib 5 it means to work 5 stitches in the rib pattern already set. So it would be something like this:

8th row: k2, p2, k1, *k2tog, p1, k2, p2, k2, k1, k2tog, rep from * another six times, p1, k2, p2.
