Second Ball of Yarn

Multi-colored Knitting

I added in second ball of yarn to baby blanket I am making. I did not knit with yarn from both balls for several stitches. I simply stopped one and left a tail and started with the next.

I am at the end of the blanket and want to weave in these tails. How should I do this to make as secure as possible and compensate for not knitting from both balls for several stitches?

YOUR ANSWER

Personally I prefer to change balls at the beginning of the row so that the ends can be tied off and then threaded into the seam or edging, particularly if the item I am making is fine (like baby knitting) but the process it the same for a ball change mid row.

I think you did the right thing not knitting with both strands as this can cause the knitting to look too thick.

Grab both ends and tie a non slip knot as tightly as you can without puckering the work. I usually use a reef knot.

Then use a darning needle to weave the threads through the back of the work for several inches. Pull the ends until there is a slight tension on the thread and then trim.

Care should be taken with the item until it has been washed as rough handling can cause the threads to 'un-weave' themselves.

Washing will allow the fibers to knit together slightly so that your join is secure.

You should always wash a knitted garment before use for that very reason.

Hope you found the answer useful.
