Size 15 needles and 8 ply wool

I am making a loose knit top and would like to know how many stitches size 15 needles and 8 ply wool gives 20cm? So that I can work out how many stitches I need for my measurements.

thanks
Meredith

To be quite honest Meredith, I don't know. The easiest way to work it out would be to knit a small square about 15 cm wide with the needles and your wool.

To do that start casting on stitches and keep going until the cast on stitches cover 15cm on the needle. I would knit the square using what ever pattern stitch you intend to use for the top, then just knit enough rows for the length to be about 15 cm and then just count the number of stitches per 10cm and multiply by 2.

Once you have measured the number of stitches and rows, you can unpick your square and re-use the wool for your top. Just don't leave it too long or the yarn will retain the shape of the stitches and make it difficult to get your knitting even.
