Size of knitting needles if you use double yarn

I would like to make a baby afghan with Sport Weight yarn using size 6 needles. If I use double yarn, what size needles should I use?

YOUR ANSWER

To answer your question I am going to have to make a few assumptions as I do not know which country you are from (plys of wool and needles sizes are different in different countries).

If you are using US sizes a 6 is 4.0mm and your ply is probably equivalent to an 8 ply or double knit. To knit it double I would try using US size 10 1/2 or 6.5m needles.

If the tension of your knitting is too tight, you could try a set of US size 11's but bear in might that at 8.0mm that is a big jump in size.

If you are using UK/Canadian/Australian sizes a 6 is 5.0mm and you ply is likely to be between an 8 and a 12 ply (probably 10 ply).

To knit it double I would start with a size 1 or 2 (8.0mm or 7.5mm). If the tension of your knitting is too tight, try a set of 0's (8.5mm), if it is too loose, try a set of 3's (6.5mm).
