slip stitches

by Joyce Haase

I am knitting a shawl collared sweater. The pattern says to knit 8, sl 1 and knit across. Purl the next row. My questions, do I slip purlwise (since it isn't directed), if so, do I bring the yarn forward to slip the stitch, and on the purl row, do I purl the slipped stitch or slip it?

YOUR ANSWER

If I was reading these instructions I would assume that the stitch is slipped knit-wise as all of the stitches before and after the slipped stitch are knit stitches.

Unless the pattern tells you to do otherwise, you would purl the slipped stitch as per normal on the next row.

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
