Too Many Stitches

by Carol Poehlmann
(Sussex, WI)

I am using a Noro Kureyon zig zag pattern cable and lace sweater # Y761 and after I knitted the ribbing for the back and increased the sts to the required amount and began the pattern, there are too many stitches left after the panel A and B are completed.

I have recalculated dozens of times with no luck. Any help would be appreciated, as the yarn was well over $100.00. The pattern is in the book NORO, Volume 20, page4.

Thank you!

YOUR ANSWER

It is very difficult to advise you without being able to see what you have done so far or reading the instructions for your panels.

There may be any one of a number of reasons that you are having trouble with this pattern:
  1. The pattern may be wrong,

  2. You are making a mistake as you are knitting the panel, or

  3. The pattern has some rows that increase the number of stitches and others that decrease the number of stitches.

If the pattern is wrong, there is not much I can do to help. You would need to contact one of the companies distributors to get any corrections that might be available.

I am not able to determine whether or not you are following the pattern correctly as I can't see you are doing and I don't have a copy of the pattern.

If you want to you can add a comment to this page with the instructions for the first couple of rows in your pattern and I might be able to get a better idea of what the problem is.

I am assuming when you are saying that you have recalculated over and over again that you are counting your knitted stitches. Have you counted the number of stitches that are included in the instructions for the panel?

I am including an example from one of the knitting stitch patterns on this site to show you what I mean.

1st row (right side) : P2, *k2tog, (k1, yf) twice, k1, sl 1, k1, psso, p2; repeat from * to end of row.

For the example row above the actual pattern stitches are between the *'s. The total number of stitches in each panel are 2(k2tog) + 1 (k1, yf) + 1 (k1, yf) + 1 (k1) + 2 (sl 1, k1, psso) + 2 (p2) = 9.

If you count the stitches in your panel instructions, do they match the number of stitches on your needle?

I also suggest that you count several rows to see if each row yields the same number of stitches.

The only other thing I can suggest is that you contact the distributor of Noro yarns and patterns in your country to see if they can help.

Hope this helped at least a bit...
