Understanding parentheses in knitting

by Rosemarie Allen
(Colorado)

If the pattern reads k1 ( p1,k1) across does this mean that I knit one, purl one, knit one all the way across or just knit one and then do what is in parentheses across the row?

I am a beginner and am not quite sure how to do this.

Thank you for your help.

Usually the bits within the brackets are the stitches that are repeated either across the row or a specified number of times.

Notice the different look and feel on some pages?

I am currently moving all of the pages to a new CSS driven template but with around 700 pages it is going to take me a while to get it done.

So in the meantime, I hope you will forgive the switch from one look to another as you navigate through the site...
