What is a tbl?
by Karen Woodward
I am knitting a bolero jacket for my daughter and I am having trouble with the frill of the jacket. Can you please show me how to interpret the pattern? YOUR ANSWERtbl means through back of loop. So instead of inserting the right hand needle into the front of the loop to as you normally when to form a knit stitch, you insert it into the back of the loop instead. To do (K1, P1, K1 P1) into next st, you insert the right hand needle into the front of the next stitch as you normally would for a knit stitch, wrap the yarn around the tip of the needle and draw through a loop. But instead of slipping the original stitch off the left hand needle you insert the tip of the right hand needle back into the same stitch purl-wise and form a purl stitch. Then you do both actions again, so that you have a knit, a purl, a knit and another purl stitch all coming from the one original stitch. Then you can slip that original stitch off the left hand needle.
